Our Role in Advancing Father’s Rights in Wisconsin
Firm founding partner Christopher Walther was instrumental in the Wisconsin legislation which now gives equal weight to fathers in custody and paternity matters. As the Chair of the State Bar of Wisconsin Family Law Section in 1999-2000, Mr. Walther was one of the principal drafters and advocates of such legislation.
Before this legislation was adopted, there was a perception that Wisconsin courts operated under the assumption that mothers would be granted primary placement, unless other evidence was presented showing that the mother was unfit. As a result of the new law, Wisconsin courts cannot give preferential treatment to mothers in custody hearings.
Our Beliefs
We believe that courts should not choose one gender over another, and that children benefit the most in having significant custody and placement time with both parents.
